Jim Barnett is a veteran political and public affairs professional with experience that spreads presidential, statewide, local, corporate and issue campaigns. Barnett has played key strategic and management roles for some of the country’s most high-profile political campaigns. He served as general consultant and campaign manager for Governor Larry Hogan’s historic reelection in Maryland where Democrats outnumber Republicans by two-to-one. It was the first time a Republican governor won reelection since 1954 and only the second time in the history of the state. Barnett also managed Senator John McCain’s 2008 come-from-behind victory in the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primary, vaulting McCain to the Republican presidential nomination. He later served as McCain’s New England Regional Campaign Manager. Vermont Governor Jim Douglas described Barnett as “an architect” of his 2002 upset victory. He went on to serve as a senior advisor to Governor Douglas in each of his three reelection wins. He also managed U.S. Senator Scott Brown’s 2012 campaign, a $45 million operation and one of the marquee races of the cycle where Brown outpaced the home state Republican presidential nominee by 15 points. Barnett is a past chairman of the Vermont Republican Party where he helped Republicans capture half of the state’s six constitutional offices in perhaps the nation’s most liberal state. While there, Barnett developed what a leading political reporter described as “the most effective…communications shop in state politics.” Vermont Business Magazine said of Barnett that he is “credited with reorganizing a state party that was in shambles and for his media savvy and voracious fundraising.” Campaigns and Elections magazine named Barnett to its “Influencers 500” list of the nation’s top campaign consultants “who help get the politicians where they want to be.” Barnett is a cum laude graduate of American University and currently resides in Washington, D.C.
